Real-time PCR, also known as quantitative PCR (qPCR), is the gold-standard for sensitive, specific detection and quantification of nucleic acid targets. In conventional PCR, the amplified DNA product, or amplicon, is detected in an end-point analysis. In real-time PCR, the accumulation of amplification product is measured as the reaction progresses with product quantification after each cycle. Real-time PCR is a very versatile method with many applications.

Cellmark has been using microsatellites to genotype human DNA for over 25 years and over this time we have validated a variety of commercially available kits for human, bovine and canine STR profiling. Our team is also experienced in assay design, optimisation and implementation of STR analysis for the accurate sizing of these repeat expansion regions for a number of applications. These applications include genetic identification and microsatellite instability analysis. We can tailor the format of result reporting to meet your needs.

Single base DNA variants have been shown to be responsible for differences in genetic traits, susceptibility to disease, and response to drug therapies. The SNaPshot Multiplex System is a primer extension-based method that can be used to screen and confirm multiple SNPs in a single reaction. Our team is experienced in designing SNaPshot assays to meet project requirements.

Targeted sequencing is a rapid and cost-effective way to detect known and novel variants in selected sets of genes or genomic regions. Cellmark can provide either a traditional sanger sequencing approach using capillary electrophoresis or next generation sequencing (NGS) through our Illumina MiSeq FGx system that utilises massively parallel sequencing (MPS) technology. We can also assist with primer design to optimise the quality of the data obtained for your target region.

Cellmark offers extensive experience of constructing high specification forensic laboratories suitable for the delivery of ISO 17025 accredited evidence recovery and the provision of a range of forensic analytical services including high sensitivity DNA analysis. This covers the planning and design stage, project management (both onsite and remote) of the facilities installation, the commissioning of HVAC air handling systems, IT infrastructure and laboratory equipment, testing and validation sign-off for laboratory use, plus ongoing maintenance and monitoring to ensure that the facilities remain within specification.
